EMDR Intensives are an intensive, structured space that have the possibility to provide transformative relief
I specialize in helping people who have experienced recent traumatic events, and I know how to sit with the weight of what happened to you.
The toll a recent event takes on your mind, body, heart, and soul can be overwhelming. It can feel hard to connect with who you were before it happened, and the daily weight of it can gradually wear down your inner strength. Eating, sleeping, getting back to work, getting back to the activities you love, all of it can start to feel out of reach.
If you know these symptoms trace back to a specific traumatic event, EMDR may be able to help. There are a range of EMDR approaches for processing events like car accidents, recent losses, medical errors, assaults, and more that I’m able to offer and help you with.
An EMDR intensive may be right for you if:
You know exactly what's in the way. You can't keep living this way, and you know what needs to shift.
You have experienced a recent event such as an accident, an assault, a loss, that you can point to as the source of what is causing you immediate distress day-to-day.
Have done substantial work in individual therapy on your traumatic past, and have found that there are still some memories, body sensations, or ways of seeing the world that don't shift.
Have done a good amount of talk therapy and feel ready to try something different, or want to accelerate the work you are doing in individual therapy.
An EMDR intensive may not be the right fit right now if
You haven't been in longer term therapy (more than 6 months)
You are experiencing emotional and psychological distress, but are unsure what caused the distress.
You're currently experiencing suicidal ideation, active self-harm, or a substance use pattern that isn't yet stabilized
You're looking for ongoing weekly support and relationship-building with a therapist, rather than concentrated, time-limited work
What does an EMDR intensive process look like?
In the beginning, sessions will be focused on your current challenges, what you’d like to experience differently in life, as well as what past experiences are coming up for you. Together, we will then chart a personalized treatment plan aimed at specific roadblocks, beliefs, perceptions, and experiences that keep getting in the way day to day.
Our sessions will then shift into the core of EMDR which uses bilateral stimulation (BLS) with either eye movements, tapping, or sound to help your brain process the experiences that are stuck and unresolved.
In these sessions, there will be some talking, but the process is mostly experiential. I am there with you to guide you, help you in holding emotions and experiences that come up, and also offer perspectives of compassion and clarity. This phase goes on until you achieve the relief you are looking for.
At the end, we will spend a few sessions strengthening the progress you have had in the process.
EMDR Intensives can be formatted in two ways:
01
One or multiple consecutive days of 3-6 hours of therapy each day
02
Ongoing clusters of 2–3-hour sessions
You deserve to experience relief.
Get in touch today if you’d like to explore an EMDR intensive, and we can have a consult call to see if an EMDR intensive process can support the change you are looking for in your life today.
The Connection to Persephone
You need a defined beginning and end to feel the change you are experiencing.
Persephone’s story is marked by a descent and return, repeated each year, where she has to spend concentrated time in the land of the living or the land of the dead. An EMDR intensive works in a similar way; the whole process is an intentional cycle of accessing what is distressing you, with the aim of experiencing transformative change. Each session we will cycle into the material we are focusing on, and return back to normal life at the end. EMDR intensives are a concentrated time, set aside on purpose, to be able to experience the fullness of the cycle of transformative relief.
